Less is plenty

Untitled (Agnes Martin, 1960)

What a lovely image.  Simple, plain, yet striking.  A calm reminder that less is plenty.

Lisa Congdon uses this image in Less, a post about her 2013 resolution for less.  She writes about her resolve to say no and let free time remain unscheduled.  For years, she says, I wanted more.  But then…

“…more work, more love, more friends, more connections, more opportunities turned into more obligations, more commitments, more pressure, more overwhelm.”

Sound familiar?

More is very easy to do, but not always to maintain.  It’s easy to buy, easy to sign up for email alerts, easy to check your phone.  A life full of friends and opportunities can be wonderful, but sometimes stressful and overwhelming.  What are ways we can be fulfilled with less, and have fewer commitments while still feeling satisfied and content?

What are some ways you strive for less?
